Office & Workplace at Arup

8.9
8.9 rating for Workplace, based on 25 reviews
Please comment on your company's office space, location and facilities. And while we're at it, please tell us a little about the dress code.
The open floor plan and hot desking means everyone feels more equal in rank and makes for a more collaborative workspace. The office is always clean and located at a convenient location. The office has a snack bar and various other free food options for the employees which make it a better place to work. The only issue I have had with the office is using a non-company issued laptop (I have one from a client) which cannot connect to the ethernet and the wifi is not of a good enough quality to use this laptop at the office, so I have to use my Arup issued one.

its average honestly, still better than some places though. Dress code is non existent which is nice. As long as you are dressed appropriately there are no issues.

Office spaces are nice with sit stand desks, nice fit out and free food. Dress code is on the casual side of business casual allowing people to dress how they feel comfortable generally.

The office is very clean, it is located in Fortitude Valley and has ample kitchen and meeting spaces, there are full time cleaning staff that help keep the office clean. The office will be moving next year and the projected plans for the new office are even better. The dress code is standard modern business attire, I and many like me wear long pants, a button-up or polo shirt (short or long sleeve and tucked or untucked) and presentable footwear.

Facilities are excellent. The tools, atmosphere and perks encourage me to come to the office rather than work-from-home.

The office is on the first floor, making it convenient to use the stairs instead of the lift. The office has hotdesking which I like but can result in people having unofficial desks which they always use. It can be a little scary to sit in new spots in case I displace someone. The kitchen has lots of food and utilities making it easy to feel comfortable and get fed. We are provided with a breakfast spread once a week. There are lots of real plants around the office, good lighting and pleasant visuals. The lockers are large but awkward shaped and too few for every employee to have on to themselves. Most are shared between two or more people and are not given to new employees by default but rather by request. None of the lockers are actually locked. It's less than ideal to keep my spare menstrual items and deodorant in my locker when I share it with a male employee. The bathrooms are nice but rather small and at some point I realised that the women's bathroom has half the capacity of the men's because there are two stalls in each but two urinals in the men's bathroom - this was not changed in the fitout by my employer. We have a wellness room which I like to use but I believe that the management of the room is somewhat poor because I believe some people leave the door shut signifying in-use after they have left. The dress code is not explicit, and I have found that people tend to dress in a way that makes them feel comfortable and that within the office clothing choices have little to no impact on the way people interact with each other.

Easy to reach via public transport. Looking forward to new office which should be an improvement for the environment/aesthetic etc.

Office could be a tad bit better - not a huge fan of the Fortitude Valley

The office location and space is great. The office is a 1 minute walk from the train station making it quite convenient to access via public transport. Our company has 3 floors within the building it occupies and the floors are connected in an integrated open plan way. There are different spaces in the offices from desks (sit/ stand) with monitors and more casual work areas such as in our internal cafe space. There are also many different non work facilities such as an internal cafe, great end of trip facilities space, a table tennis area, relaxation room, parents room and also access to an outdoor garden. The dress code is quite casual / smart casual.

ARUP has an incredibly nice office, open-plan, high ceilings, designed by ARUP (people who designed it now work in it), cafe inside the office, large kitchen, nice meeting rooms, sit-stand desks, good IT support, heaps of natural light and more plants than I've ever seen in an office before. Conveniently located right opposite southern cross station. Fairly flexible dress code, smart-casual, more casual on Fridays.
