Management at Arup

8.7
8.7 rating for Management, based on 25 reviews
How accessible are managers and do they make good mentors? You may want to address internal communication, performance feedback or praise and recognition.
Most managers are readily available, and all are very willing to help us learn. They are all patient and want to help us improve in all that we do, they will regularly meet up with us to check how things are going and if we are happy with the projects they have us working on. I have only just been moved into the correct team for my work so I am yet to have formal feedback from my current manager and my previous manager was in a different team so did not work with me closely so could not provide very much.

Direct managers are wonderful and they are the reason the score is relatively high. However, upper management is trash

My direct manager is a great mentor for me and there are opportunities (fortnightly) to seek feedback from them at this time.

My team manager makes time for the team and leads us well. I have received very beneficial feedback twice so far that has helped me improve my performance at work. The managers at Arup are easily contactable through teams or email if they are unavailable.

My manager shows genuine care for me. I have not experienced any power imbalance or unhealthy power dynamic with other seniors in the company.

My manager is accessible but rarely in contact with me. We have recently changed from fortnightly check ins to monthly which is fine with me but because we work in different offices the majority of the time and have no project work together, I rarely interact with them. That was not something I expected to happen. More confusingly, one of the other grads who is not in their team works very closely with my manager. I see other teams in the office catching up much more frequently than my team and can sometimes feel jealous at the apparent closeness of those teams. I am very happy with the actions and support of my manager when I choose to reach out.

Very good. They are busy people but take the time to speak to each one of us individually

Managers are extremely accessible, very approachable, who are inviting to understand both your social/life situation as well as your needs for career progression and satisfaction of work. They are supportive, correctly balancing between direct guidance and free-learning to allow you to develop your skills without being spoon-fed.

Very accessible, exceptionally good mentors and internal communication is easy. Leaders take you out for coffees and make sure you are enjoying your time as a grad as they want to retain employees for the long run

Managers are very accessible, and very motivated to provide advice and guidance. They are very generous with communication, mostly informal, face to face conversations and teams messages, and I always get both useful and positive feedback on work that i submit for review.
